Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme run by That Artsy Reader Girl. Goodness, I did not realize until today that I have apparently not written one of these since all the way back in March. Lately, subjects hadn’t grabbed me when I’ve checked up on the listing, but I think I’ve been remiss in how little I’ve been checking, since I wish I’d contributed more throughout the year. This is an easy one to jump in on, at any rate, as I have a few books I still want to read before the year is done and a bunch more I’m hoping to start in the new year and the months following.
Moby Dick by Herman Melville

The quintessential “white whale” read for me, funnily, but I think I will finally be starting this book soon. My new work schedule affords me more reading time, with better focus, and I’m hoping I can orient that towards this more daunting literary undertaking.
2120 by George Wylesol

I’ve been waiting for this surreal graphic novel experience that blends choose-your-own adventure with point-and-click adventure game presentation for a while now, but the copy on order at my library still hasn’t come in yet. Once it does, I’ll be reading it soon after.
Like a Trophy from the Sun by Jason Heroux

The same goes for this poetry collection, which is also on order at the library. This book is part of my ongoing endeavours to read poetry on occasion, and I believe this was written by a local poet as well, so that will be nice.
A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers

Yet another repeat on lists such as this, I really need to finally continue the Wayfarers series by cracking open this book. Probably not first thing next year, but hopefully within the first few months?
Absolution by Jeff VanderMeer

I’ve officially finished the original Southern Reach trilogy, reading the entire thing in 2024, so with that momentum going I’d like to go into the newest book released just months ago as soon as I can (with some other reads as a buffer).
Immortal Hulk by Al Ewing and Joe Bennett

I haven’t read from this series in a year or two, and I was very annoyed to learn that the last one I read was the penultimate volume; I can’t believe I left the ending hanging all this time. There’s also a volume of collected one-shots that I want to read soon as well.
A Guest in the House by Emily Carroll

I’ve been meaning to read this book all year, and while I missed a trick in not making time for it around Halloween, I’m hoping it’ll make for a nice Christmas ghost story.
Trickster Drift by Eden Robinson

I read the first book in this trilogy, Son of a Trickster, a couple of years ago and would really like to continue, so maybe with my newfound reading time I can squeeze it in this winter.
Pandora’s Jar by Natalie Haynes

This is yet another book I’ve been meaning to read all year. I want to try to read it soon, but I fear others on this list will take precedent (I just don’t go for nonfiction (non-narrative?) as much, if that’s what you can this).
Waking Gods by Sylvain Neuvel

Another series I started back in 2022, I’d really like to continue this one, especially as I was finally able to get myself a good used copy a couple of months ago. I really need to stop starting series/trilogies and letting them languish after the first book. Reading all of the Southern Reach in a year was an anomaly that maybe I can turn into a trend.
Until next time, thank you for reading! Feel free to share your own list down below.
