Looking Back at 2024 & New Challenges for 2025

Look at us go, we’re officially in the mid-2020s. Just like that, we’re in the middle of a decade that sometimes feels like it started last year, as time marches forever forward. I’m sorry if people are sick of these clichés, by they are clichés for a reason, after all, and like anybody else I must reckon with the passage of time as I get older.

It’s been a couple of years now since my reading challenges became altogether more relaxed, and I must say that it’s been a net positive. I do feel that I’m a lot happier and more easygoing about these things than I used to be. Let’s have a look at what I accomplished in 2024Read More »

Looking Back at 2023 & New Challenges for 2024

I have to say, 2024 sounds a little too serious as a year, doesn’t it? Even in 2023 it felt like we were still in the shadow of 2020, but now it feels a lot more apparent that we’re entering the mid-2020s, which is discomforting. I know this is all subjective, but the march of time has never felt more apparent to me.

Neverminding that digression, with the dramatic change of my working habits and schedule introduced a couple of years ago, it took me a while to adjust my reading habits to a place I could be happy with. As a result, I referred to my reading endeavours in 2022 in last year’s equivalent of this post as a “dud”. I’m happy to report now that I managed to turn that mood around in a year’s time. Let’s have a look at the particulars.Read More »

Looking Back at 2022 & New Challenges for 2023

I’ve admittedly been very unmotivated to put this post together, though it’s actually no later than its equivalent last year. For me, 2022 was a bit of a dud as far as reading goals go. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, my freelance job has made getting reading done a lot harder, more so than I thought it would, and this was felt all throughout the year. By no means would I spurn a job I find to be worthwhile for a hobby, but it gets you down all the same.

All this being said, I’m really re-evaluating how I want to be approaching reading going forward, in a much more serious way than last year. But first, I would like to review just how my challenges ended up with all said and done.Read More »

Reading Challenge Update

This is a couple of weeks later than I ought to have put it up, but a lot of life has been happening, so I hope you can forgive me procrastinating this a smidge. I still want to get it up regardless, though, so it’s time to see where I’m at with my challenges with the year now half over.

Right off the bat, I’m not really where I want to be. Having been doing freelance editing work for almost a year now, I think it is safe to say it has a significant impact on my reading progress. I will have to re-evaluate my goals in the future, presuming that I continue to do this job long term, which I would like to do, but you never know what the future might hold.Read More »

Reading Challenge Update

This first quarter of 2022 has honestly been a little dismal for me on the reading front. Things have progressively slowed down since I got my freelance job during the second half of last year, but for some reason I’ve had an even harder time getting motivated to read over the past few months. It’s not as if I’ve been reading nothing, but when comparing the numbers to this time last year it is a little disheartening.

I think some of it has to do with the fact that my freelance job, while ultimately involving editing, has me reading a lot too. So, when I do have downtime, I feel less inclined to spend my time reading for fun. Hopefully I can reorganize things a little to better suit what I want, but for the moment I’m finding it all a little vexing.Read More »

Looking Back at 2021 & New Challenges for 2022

Though we’re well into January now, I’ve felt a little less motivated to get my new challenges put together for 2022, which is why this post is going up so late. Nevertheless, I like taking this time to look back at the year that has passed and look forward to what I want to read in the coming year. I hope to be able to keep most challenges relatively the same, but with the second job I’ve been doing since August, I feel like my goals are incidentally more ambitious.Read More »

Year in Review 2018

December has been a dearth of posts, regrettably, though I think that has a lot to do with the year just winding down and my desire to just chill out a bit more until the New Year, as far as reading goes and then writing about it goes. I even missed WWW Wednesday yesterday, though that had much more to do with how busy I was over the holidays. I just couldn’t find the time to put one together. I should have done it ahead of time, but I usually write it the morning of and that was a tough habit to break. Nevertheless, with 2018 coming to a close in less than a week I wanted to take some time to reflect upon my year of reading and writing a bit.Read More »
