Progress on The Buying of Lot 37 by Joseph Fink & Jeffrey Cranor is slow but steady. I think I got through a small handful of episodes this past week. Since this is more of a supplemental read I’m satisfied with that. Once again I’m really enjoying the nuggets of information the little preface toward each episode provides. In one, Jeffrey Cranor discusses how in one of the earliest episodes two random characters are said to have gone on a date after a harrowing experience. These two characters crop up again in a much later episode, in this collection, where we get a brief update on their lives. I really like these little Easter Eggs they’ve added in the story, things that are easy to miss if you’re not going back and re-listening to episodes.
I’ve given Phasma by Delilah S. Dawson more attention this past week, but I do wish I was further along with it. I am enjoying it just fine, but I do need to pick up the pace if I want to get through my personal to-read list for the year. Phasma has already crossed paths with the First Order on her destitute native planet, though it is only General Hux Sr. and a trio of stormtroopers who have crashed on it. They’re currently on a journey to find the crashed ship, taking them across areas on the planet left unexplored for generations. I’m really liking the more intimate look at one planet’s history that this book is providing. One of the more intriguing things about the Star Wars universe is how old space-faring civilization is in the galaxy. The idea of a world that fell and is left behind is really interesting to me.

Reading Next
I’m sitting here looking at my little to-read list and I need to make a decision. I can’t hum and haw as much; it’s time for action. So, I’m going to read Exit West by Mohsin Hamid. I won a copy of it at a book mixer a year or so ago and have been meaning to read it for a while now. Sam spoke quite well of it in her WWW posts and subsequent review a few months ago and I’d like to finally read it for myself. I really ought to pick up another comic book volume to read too, but I can’t make up my mind on that front yet. I find that less urgent anyway.

I’ve not read Exit West but I did enjoy other an earlier book by Mohsin Hamid – How to Get Filthy Rich in Asia. A somewhat tongue in cheek novel. I have a feeling Exit West is more serious
It certainly appears that way from what vague details I remember hearing about it, but I believe it also includes some magic realism.
I love books that include Easter eggs, so it’s really neat that there’s a lot of them to find in The Buying of Lot 37. Makes you pay more attention and read more closely, which I love.
I believe that you’re working on it. I’m in the same boat as you, with my measly one book finished (and I only read one at a time). So we were both slacking this week or something. xD Exit West sounds great, though! I hope you enjoy it and can get to it soon. 😉
I just can’t force myself to power through a book, especially lately, though I suppose it’s better that I don’t. Things may slow down, but one wouldn’t want to experience burnout. We’ll get there.
I’m honestly not sure if the term “Easter egg” even applies to every instance lol I’m just enjoying noticing things that passed me by the first time I experienced this stuff. The background characters were mentioned like 50 episodes apart though, so I’d be surprised if anybody noticed on their first go.
I’ve always found that powering through leads me to burnout, so you’ve definitely got the right idea! Even if it’s slow progress, at least it’s still progress.
I feel like something that obscure for sure counts as an Easter egg, but I see what you mean. xD I still love finding little things like that which you don’t notice right away.

I think Sam has kind of convinced me to try Exit West at some point too. I get the impression it’s very different from what I thought it was.
It is certainly very motivating to see other people reading a book you mean to get to soon too.
I’m intrigued that they’ve started releasing Night Vale transcripts – I haven’t listened to the podcasts in a long time but maybe this is a way to revisit. Do you still get the same weird vibe reading them as listening?
This is actually the second wave of collections. The first two volumes released in September 2016.
Cecil’s wonderful baritone and performance is missed, but I find I pay a little more attention to the smaller details. Plus, an illustration by Jessica Hayworth accompanies every episode and they’re often appropriately weird/spooky.
I need to read more Star Wars novels! I haven’t read Phasma, I heard mixed things about it.

I’m finding it all right so far. Not blowing me away, but compared to some other new Star Wars books where the title is a character’s name I think this one is at least trying to do something unique.
