Currently Reading
I’m making pretty steady progress reading Who’s a Good Boy? by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor. I’m nearly halfway through it already, which I’m happy about because I want both want to read it and want to be done reading it. I feel like I’ve kicked book reading into a higher gear and I’m hoping I can keep some momentum going. As I’m getting further along I’m realizing just how little I actually remember about the key story arcs from this series. I could have sworn the storylines being built up in this book happened more recently, yet they’re in 2015/2016. Just time being funny again, I guess. Slipping through my fingers and down the drain, leaving me to underestimate just how much of it has flowed by.
Recently Finished
In an completely unprecedented move (considering my reading habits) I started and finished Exit West by Mohsin Hamid since last Wednesday. To be fair, it is a rather quick read though. The page count was not especially high and it was aided further by a stream-of-consciousness style of writing that had each page flow on by quite swiftly. I really like how adept the book was at evoking a myriad of feelings, both good and bad, when it came to both mundane and horrific or extraordinary situations. One downside I did find to this writing style is I had an intimate sense of who the two protagonists were yet felt they were also kept at arms length from me. I should have a full review up by next week.
Reading Next
I’ve already made up my mind on this one. I’m going to read The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton next. I remember reading a lot of buzz around this book last year, and this book will both satisfy my scrappy list further and feed my perpetually budding interest in reading more mystery stories. A little time travel thrown in for extra spice makes it all the more enticing. Beyond that, I’m really not sure what it’s about. Evelyn’s probably gonna die a few times, I do feel pretty confident about that.

The Seven Deaths is a really interesting read. I liked it, but it made my head hurt (in a good way!). I know some people felt it was a little pretentious, but I thought it was pretty cleverly done.
I’m looking forward to some potentially mind-bending timey-wimey nonsense. I’m on board for it.
I love the cover for Who’s A Good Boy. It looks sufficiently creepy and gives all the right spooky vibes. Look at you being all decisive about your next read. xD The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is supposed to be really good. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s on my TBR, too, and I look forward to what you think. I’m usually really good at predicting what’s going to happen in books, so I’m just going to throw out there that I have an inkling that Evelyn is going to die … oh … right about seven times. 😉
I feel the same way, I LOVE the cover for Who’s a Good Boy?, it’s definitely my favourite of all the episode collections so far. And I’ll throw a dang fit if there aren’t precisely seven deaths 😛 It’ll be the worst misnomer since The Neverending Story.

What if there’s EIGHT deaths, because she dies in the end, too, and the title only refers to the seven previous ones? 😮 Blasphemous, right? Now you’ll just have to read the whole thing and tell me if there’s a hidden death somewhere. xD
Yes, but Night Vale veers more toward weird fiction than outright horror. Frightening concepts presented as everyday.
It gets even more confusing to know there’s an alternate title called The Seven and a Half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, and I’m starting to feeling like that might be a spoiler.
I figured. The cover doesn’t look so much horror to me as cryptid and CreepyPasta sort of things (which I love). The sort of spooky mundane.
Listen. I’m gonna feel really bad if I just accidentally spoiled a major part of the book with my cheekiness. xD I’m sort of curious how you have half a death, though. Is that like being beaten half to death?
I’m not sure, but my copy doesn’t say it, so I’m just going to do my best to willfully ignore it lol
I can definitely relate to the time slipping thing. Sometimes it’s so crazy to see how books can be years old when you feel like it was published last year!
Yeah, I sometimes feel like I just read something and then I realize it was like 2 years ago. Or worse, when I realize just how long I’ve been sitting on a book that I just had to buy at the time lol
