My Farewell to the Tenth

As I’ve mentioned and written about a number of times already, I have been watching a lot of Doctor Who. I refrained from writing about the show during October, since I wanted to focus more on horror in honour of Halloween. Now that we’ve entered November, however, I feel free to return to the well of Doctor Who once more for a topic of musing.

At this point, my friends and I are almost completed the sixth season, so we are well into the Matt Smith period of The Doctor. Beginning Doctor Who

As someone who tries to go through as much different content as possible, Doctor Who was one of those shows I was always meaning to get to. In the case of episodic content, however, I can be terrible at actually keeping up, especially in an on-demand age where so much is just at my fingertips. Something about availability has often made going through shows so easy to procrastinate.

Doctor Who is a unique case as well due to its longevity. This presented a significantly higher amount of episodes I would have to go through if starting from the very beginning and made the idea of getting into it more daunting.Read More »

Playing the Uncharted trilogy

As I mentioned way back in my post about playing the God of War series, it hasn’t been until very recently that I’ve been able to play prominent PlayStation titles. As a result, for the first half of this year I had actually been going through a backlog of games I needed to get through before access to a PS3 was whisked away. Between April and July I managed to play through all three games in the Uncharted series, and with that now complete I will take this time to reflect upon my experience with it.Read More »

The Wolf Among Us Concluded

This past week, the fifth and final episode of Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us entitled “Cry Wolf” released for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and other platforms. For those who do not know, the series is based upon the Fables comic books by Bill Willingham, the game’s story taking place prior to the beginning of the comics. I had been eagerly awaiting the release of this episode since the nail-biting ending of episode 4 “In Sheep’s Clothing” and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the way the game wrapped itself up.Read More »

While I’ve stated that I love how the God of War series adapted and utilized traditional Greek Mythology into its story and world, what has always particularly wowed me about the series is how it has represented the gods, heroes, and monsters.

When compared to other representations of the gods I have seen or caught glimpses of in popular culture, there is something that has just felt right about how God of War has represented them. Though the series does still have some glaring flaws in that department — such as the unexplained absence of Apollo — their representation of the Olympians and Titans is something I’ve admired.Read More »

Experiencing God of War Part 1

Very recently I was able to play through God of War 3, finally finishing the main trilogy of the franchise. God of War has been a series of games I’ve long had a deep fascination with. I’ve always been interested in mythology, as well as over-the-top fantasy violence. That being the case, God of War was a series I knew would be right up my alley.

The funny thing about this is that while I grew up with video games I never owned a PlayStation. I had an NES, a Genesis, a Nintendo 64, a Gamecube, a Wii, and then an Xbox 360. I never got to play any entry in the series until I was an adult. Despite coming late to the series, I couldn’t be happier with how my experience with it turned out.
