For the most part this is a book blog, but I do occasionally review movies and those of you who have read my posts with any regularity will know that I’m a pretty big Star Wars fan. Episode IX is on the horizon, the intended finale in the soon to be nine-film Skywalker saga, and I am really dang excited for it.
As a matter of personal preference, I decided to stop reviewing the films a couple of years ago. I get too swept away by hype and the experience. I’d rather just reflect at my leisure without having to worry about putting my thoughts together for wider consumption.
That being said, I do have some very specific thoughts and feelings about this new trilogy, as well as some predictions about the final installment, that I decided I’ll throw out into the aether instead of juggling around in my head. If you’re gracious enough to check this out it’s longer than what I normally post, even as part one of two, and I’m operating on the assumption that you know what Star Wars is and what’s going on in the new films. Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens is a collection of short stories by Landry Q. Walker set in the Star Wars universe, targeted at a younger reading audience aged 8 to 12. Contained within are six stories about some of the aliens that make up the background characters of the film The Force Awakens, some more conspicuously than others. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens finally came out a couple weeks ago, and I’ve seen it twice since then. The honeymoon phase is over, I’ve heard a lot of praise and a fair share of criticism, and with that I’d like to run down some things I’d like to see from the next installment in this new trilogy. Some of these things I’m eagerly anticipating, while others are more in response to criticisms I have after digesting the content more thoroughly.Read More »
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh installment in the Star War series, directed by J. J. Abrams and starring Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, alongside Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and others reprising their iconic roles. The film is the first to be released after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm back in late 2012. It is easily the most highly anticipated release this year, as it is the first new Star Wars film released in a decade after the conclusion of the prequel trilogy. The story continues from 30 years after the end of Return of the Jedi, where a Resistance force backed by the New Republic still fights against the First Order, an organization which rose from the ashes of the fallen Empire.Read More »
